August in the Wotiz Gallery – Photographer Sharon Armstrong

Saturday, August 31, 2019
TIME: August 2, 2019 - August 31, 2019 LOCATION: Wotiz Gallery CONTACT: Jean Hlady, Head of Adult Services/Reference (617) 698-5757, x. 3 jhlady@ocln.org

From August 2 through 31, the Milton Public Library will host photographer Sharon Armstrong and her colorful exhibit of beach images in our Wotiz Gallery.  Sharon attended Cortland University, is originally from Duluth, MA and now lives in Sharon, MA. Her dad was in the Air Force so she traveled widely as a child.  She was able to experience and enjoy living in Spain, Holland, Germany, Greece, and Africa, and even though she was still too young to pick up a camera, she says she remembers the sights, sounds and smells of all of these countries well.  By the time Sharon was 10 years old, she had received a “Brownie” camera as a gift, and ever since has enjoyed photography which has become a lifelong passion.  This is what she says about her photos: “I have always found my inspiration through traveling, and love capturing these moments.  I decided to show my photography in 2018 and I am excited to showcase my work in the upcoming show.”  The artist also spends time with a close friend who is a respected mobile artist on Martha’s Vineyard, so she is able to regularly embrace this beautiful place also using her own camera.  Most of the photos in this display are from the Island, and we encourage everyone to come check out the first floor Gallery this month.  This photography display will help us all to appreciate the beauty of a remote beach, the splendor of the ocean, and the lovely shades of brown, black, gray and white colors created by the movement of water in a spectacular landscape – great for this time of year.  Viewing Sharon’s work is a perfect foray into summer and it will hopefully inspire all of us to take  future vacations at the seaside.  For more information about displaying your artwork at the Library, contact Jean Hlady, Head of Adult Services/Reference, by Emailing her at jhlady@ocln.org or call (617) 698-5757, x. 3 to learn more about a the application process.
