During the month of February 2017, the Milton Public Library will host an arts collaborative called “Bohemian Arts: Boston, Cambridge and Beyond” in the Wotiz Gallery on the first floor. The mission of Bohemian Arts is “to serve artists of all genres as a resource to collaborate, share information, build and bond.” The organization “opens doors of opportunity to community artists to enable them to reach resources, select and guide them, to have more control of the way their art is exposed to art collectors, gallery owners, prospective buyers and lovers of art.” The membership includes all genres: painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, music, spoken word, performers, fashion and design. This display will feature several talented artists including Dr. Runoko Rashidi, an anthropologist and historian with a major focus on the “Global African Presence;” photographer Hakim Raquib of Panama and Boston; Gary Ames Rickson, who is a founding member of the African American Artist Association since 1962, and who is an excellent mural painter; Pamela Goncalves, who has been a major presence in the Greater Boston communities and has created award-winning art pieces since 2000; Akan David, who is a young painter who began creating art at age 13 and his works have gained favor in West African countries, now breaking into the global market; Kerrie Elaina Lloyd, who does ceramics, stained glass and painting, is an instructor in all forms, and is from San Pedro, CA; and Sister Releigh Cocoa Lady, a native Bostonian who is a sculptor and art instructor, and also a floral designer and party planner. These fine artisans will bring the library a colorful and fun display of various types of artwork to help us all celebrate Black History Month. There will be a free and open reception in the gallery on Monday evening, February 13th from 6-8 PM so please come and enjoy this lovely exhibit.
