During the month of July 2018, the Wotiz Gallery at the Milton Public Library will show a beautiful and colorful display of collages made by the residents of Winter Valley of Milton. The Winter Valley Collage Group started sometime in 2015 and includes Liz O’Rourke, Abe Salzman, Mark Whall, Mary Douglas, Robert Turner, Charlene McClellan, and Peggy Walsh. Liz O’Rourke is the Activities Coordinator for the facility and a lifelong artist. She had been creating collages for approximately 5 years under the tutelage of Sandra Shuman, a collage artist, friend and instructor, and was excited about a new piece. Liz showed it to Abe Salzman, an artist and resident, and he loved the idea of collage. A week later he showed Liz his first collage piece. Abe was inspired and on fire! From there he introduced collage to other residents, offering free instruction and guidance in a weekly workshop. Recently there have been several collage showings at Winter Valley and one at Fuller Village Brush Hill. Abe has also instructed collage classes at Simon C. Fireman’s House in Randolph and Unquity House in Milton. The artwork is made from cut-out paper images from magazines, old books and other assorted media. Rubber cement and glue sticks are used to adhere the paper pieces and other items to foam core, mat board or card stock. Some of the pieces are for sale, and there will be a free and open reception for this exhibit on Thursday, July 19th, from 6-8 PM in the Gallery. You will be amazed by the creativity and unique approach each artist takes to their projects! Please come and check out the Wotiz during July.
