November in the Wotiz Gallery – Milton artist Annie LaVigne

Saturday, November 30, 2019
TIME: November 1, 2019 - November 30, 2019 LOCATION: Wotiz Gallery CONTACT: Jean Hlady  (617) 698-5757, x. 3

Milton visual artist Annie LaVigne will install a display of mixed media on paper and framed digital illustrations in our Wotiz Gallery this month from 11/1/19-11/30/19.  This exhibit of whimsical paintings and drawings were created by an artist who not only paints, but she also creates fun and colorful soft sculpture.  Her art depicts animals, people, other objects and more, and is a delight to view.  Foxes are one of her favorite animals and her representation of them is so great to see because, although she uses simple outlines and embellishment similar to cartoons, she paints with beautifully mixed colors an creates images that are cool and unusual.  Many of her animal prints in particular would be just the thing to decorate spaces for children.

Ms. LaVigne also works with animation and felt pieces, 2D artwork, and frames digitial illustrations as well as some mixed media ones. She is the founder of Harriet and Mickey, Inc, a creative studio focused on storytelling through illustration, writing, and animation.  She also teaches animation at the Rhode Island School of Design and is a self-taught visual artist, who has an MFA in Creative Writing and has exhibited her work in many galleries.  This is what she says about her work:

“I am interested in expressing something emotionally authentic and compelling.  My practice is to sit down, begin drawing and see what arises.  If it begins to look like a character (which it often does), I develop it.  I love color enormously, and while my best drawing seems to occur without much effort, I put a great deal of time into mixing paint to achieve the colors and color combinations I want.”

In addition to this exhibit, Annie will offer a program called:  “Craft Workshop: Felting Creations for Thanksgiving” in our Keys Community Room on Wednesday, 11/13 from 6:30-8:30 PM.   It is suitable for adults and teens, and more details may be found at our Eventkeeper here under the date – signup is required and class size is limited.  All materials will be provided without charge and this program is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.

Also there will be a free and open art reception held on Thursday, November 7th from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Gallery.  Please come, meet Annie, and view her wonderful display!
