TIME: February 1, 2018 - February 28, 2018 LOCATION: Wotiz Gallery CONTACT: Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian, at (617) 698-5757, x. 3

During the month of February, the Milton Public Library is pleased to celebrate Black History Month in the Wotiz Gallery by hosting an exhibit of photography by local artist Cheryl Clegg called “Faces of the Rasin Foundation, Haiti.”  The Milton-based non-profit Rasin Foundation’s mission is to improve the health of the poorest citizens of rural Haiti.  In January 2013, Ms. Clegg travelled for the first time with the doctors of The Rasin Foundation to their clinic in Le Petite Riviere, a village just outside of Leogane.  Walking through the sugar cane field to the clinic the first day, she did not know what to expect.  All she could see were lines of people forming outside the clinic door waiting for basic healthcare.  They were dressed in their Sunday best: hats, dress shoes, dresses and suits.  They were infants, children, parents, grandparents and great grandparents.  They were all there to see the volunteer doctors of The Rasin Foundation“The Faces of The Rasin Foundation” is an ongoing series of portraits of the residents of Le Petite Riviere, who are now able to receive medical care because of the work of the organization.  To learn more about The Rasin Foundation, go to: www.rasinfoundation.org   There will be a free and open reception for this display on Monday evening, February 26 from 6-8 PM in the Gallery so please come and meet the photographer and view her work.

Photographer Cheryl Clegg is a Waltham, Massachusetts–based artist whose interest in photography started at a young age with a Kodak Instamatic in hand.  She attended Rochester Institute of Technology, receiving a BFA in advertising photography and has maintained a commercial studio for close to three decades.  Cheryl’s clients have included household names and her work has appeared on billboards, magazines, book covers and annual reports.  Every day behind the camera is a good day.  Be it commissioned work or a personal project, achieving emotion in a photograph is what it is all about for her.  She spends her free time with her husband, Brian, and their 5 children.

Please come and enjoy this heartfelt and timely display which will remain in place from February lst through the 28th.   For more information about this exhibit or about displaying your art at the Library, contact Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian, at (617) 698-5757, x. 3 or go to our website: www.miltonlibrary.org and click on “Events.”
