Welcome to “The Greatest Era in Rock: The British Invasion and the American Answer.” Author and pop culture historian Marty Gitlin will bring this wonderful and exciting time in music history to life through the magic of Zoom. The presentation features great videos that most music historians consider the finest period in rock-and-roll history, from the birth of the British Invasion through the response of fantastic American bands. Included are live performances of some of the best and most creative songs of the generation from such legendary artists as The Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, Simon and Garfunkel, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Who, and many more.
Gitlin will also discuss the impact these bands made on American society and pop culture while comparing and contrasting the British Invasion and American response. Test your music knowledge as some fun trivia questions will be included, and the speaker welcomes lots of questions from particpants too during the talk.
