Welcome to the Graveyard with the Gravestone Girls

Tuesday, October 26, 2021
TIME: 7pm - 8pm LOCATION: Virtual CONTACT: Reference Desk, 617.698.5757

This will be a spooky presentation with The Gravestone Girls, in a talk about New England cemeteries and gravestone art.  The Gravestone Girls, whose mission is to “Keep Our Dead Alive,” will be presenting a virtual tour called “Welcome to the Graveyard” this evening via Zoom.  This is a 90 minute presentation that will hopefully allow for some questions and answers too.   This popular program has been given at many area New England libraries, as the group regularly works with them and with historical societies and genealogical groups, among others, to teach about the “art, symbolism and history of these living history museums located on everyone’s mainstreets and backyards” says Ms. Sullivan of the trio.  She also says: “Almost everyone is interested in these peaceful and beautiful spaces, but may be hesitant to say so to others. Our presentation let’s you know you’re not the only one.”

The Gravestone Girls not only provide interesting historical cemetery presentations, but they also create beautiful and unusual sculpted art pieces using the primitive art from the faces of gravestones.  They also teach gravestone rubbing classes and lead cemetery tours.  Their art is regularly shown at art and craft festivals, and is often commissioned for documentation and fundraising projects.  They have done these rubbings at important cemeteries and gravestones, and they have worked with public and private projects for clients nationwide.  This program will include a variety of castings from their 100 plus image collection, and you will have a chance also to purchase cemetery art from them if you so desire.

To contact the Gravestone Girls, go to their website which is www.GravestoneGirls.com or Email thegirls@gravestonegirls.com

To attend the talk, you must register in advance here and once signed up, a Zoom connection link will be Emailed to you for participation.  Please join us for a very enjoyable evening!

And Happy Halloween everyone…!  angry
