Hallie Ephron – A Year in Review

Hallie shared her expertise with the community through programming at the Library, with a focus on writing from personal experience. Along with Suzette Martinez Standring, author of The Art of Opinion Writing and The Art of Column Writing, she presented insights and tips to help aspiring writers mine their own experience to write personal essays that bring memories to life on the page, and find meaning in them. After this initial program, a group of writers committed to a workshop series, sharing their work in small groups led by Hallie. The series concluded with a public reading, where the writers presented samples of their personal essays with family, friends and the library community.

Hallie also shared her experience as a professional writer through a Pathways to Publication program, co-hosted by Sharon Ward, author of Smart Self-Publishing Strategies. Participants learned about the opportunities and challenges in the publishing industry to help them make informed decisions about their own pathway to getting published.

And our younger patrons also were given the opportunity to practice writing and storytelling in a kids program titled Write With Hallie.

Hallie Ephron’s Newest Book

Hallie Ephron was the second Writer-in-Residence, and worked with the Library during 2023-2024.

Hallie’s most recent book is Careful What You Wish For.

The Milton Public Library is excited to announce that local writer Hallie Ephron has been selected as the 2023-2024 Dr. Herb Voigt Writer-in-Residence.

Hallie Ephron is a NY Times bestselling author of suspense novels reviewers have called “deliciously creepy.” Her newest, Careful What You Wish For, is a mash-up of Antiques Roadshow and Strangers on a Train. Her Never Tell a Lie was adapted for film for the Lifetime Movie Network. A five-time finalist for the Mary Higgins Clark Award, her Writing and Selling Your Mystery Novel, now revised and expanded, was an Edgar Award and Anthony Award finalist. Lee Child called it “the best how-to guide I have ever seen–I just wish I could have read it years ago.” Hallie blogs regularly on the Anthony award-winning Jungle Red Writers. She is a popular presenter at events and writing conferences across the US and abroad. She was the crime fiction book reviewer for the Boston Globe for a dozen years and won the Ellen Nehr Award for Excellence in Mystery Reviewing. She is also a past president of the New England chapter of Sisters in Crime.

Hallie will be offering workshops and events for library patrons throughout her residency, and we invite the community to welcome Hallie at a “Meet The Writer-in-Residence” event at the Library on September 27th at 7 PM.
