Concert with Boston Typewriter Orchestra

Saturday, November 2, 2024
TIME:

The Boston Typewriter Orchestra (BTO) is a collective endeavor which “engages in rhythmic manipulation combined with elements of performance, comedy, and satire.”  The Orchestra has posed the questions of: “What is an instrument?  Can music be performed on objects of the business world?  What is the intersection of industry and art?  Where can we find beauty and purpose in the world’s relentless grind and repetition?”  (credit goes to Adult Services staff of the Boston Public Library for composing these questions and this description for their publicity in May 2024).  Following a performance at Milton Porchfest a couple of years ago, the BTO will play a one-hour concert this afternoon in our Keys Community Room, and you do not want to miss this funny and out-of-this-world presentation!

The group challenges the usual definition of “music” – which we are all accustomed to – with their very unique take on how to use voices and typewriters and bells and more to entertain and engage an audience!   The band began in 2004, with performances at house parties, art galleries, and street festivals.  The members have played on local, national, and international radio and TV, and have appeared in the documentary called “California Typewriter.”  The band has produced several singles and 5 albums and is not like anything you have seen before!

No signup is required to attend and this concert is great for all ages.  It is kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library and is free and open to all.

Just please come and join host Jean Hlady for a very fun afternoon!
