Centuries of industrial activity along the Lower Neponset River left behind toxic chemicals that still impact neighboring communities today. To raise awareness about the issue and inspire others to act, Boston Latin School senior Lucy Zhang will be holding a community storytelling exhibit at Milton Public Library throughout the months of April-June. In this exhibit, she highlights 15 advocates working to protect and restore the Lower Neponset River through self-drawn watercolor portraits and personal interviews.

Over four months, Lucy interviewed advocates coming from Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, and the town of Milton, four neighborhoods affected by the pollution. For years these scientists, artists, and community leaders have worked from many perspectives to improve the River’s health, hoping to make it a resource for all. By sharing their stories, Lucy hopes to not only raise public awareness about the river’s pollution, but also inspire others to join a community working for change.

A free and open reception will be held in the Keys Community Room on Monday, April 13, 6-8 PM.
